Bag Policy & Safety Information

Most visitors only need to remember two things: large or concealing bags aren’t allowed inside the secure zone, and every permitted bag is inspected at screening. A staffed baggage storage facility sits by the visitor center entrance for anything you can’t bring in.

Prohibited Items

  • Any bag or container larger than 1.25″ x 2.25″ x 5.5″ (purses, handbags, backpacks, fanny packs, camera/diaper bags, luggage)
  • Glass containers (except baby food jars and tempered-glass water bottles)
  • Musical instruments and cases (unless covered by an NPS Special Use Permit)
  • Recreational items: skateboards, skate shoes, Frisbees, balls
  • Flowers: potted plants, vases, floral containers
  • Aerosol cans
  • Weapons: knives, multitools, pocket knives, and similar
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Rideable devices: bicycles, scooters, e-bikes, Segways
  • Flags, signs, banners on posts/poles (permit only)
  • Wreaths on stands (permit only)

A storage facility operated by the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum accepts items of all sizes (including luggage) for a fee and can be used while visiting all Pearl Harbor Historic Sites.

Permitted Items

  • Clutches/wallets up to 1.25″ x 2.25″ x 5.5″
  • Clear plastic bags with contents easily visible (stadium-style)
  • Small shopping bags purchased inside the secure zone (valid only the day of purchase; not for re-entry)
  • Wheelchairs with fixed, non-removable bags
  • Medical bags when necessary equipment can’t fit in a lightweight, clear bag
  • Strollers with a fixed, non-removable pouch
  • Musical instruments/cases tied to an NPS Special Use Permit
  • Food and water (not concealed inside a bag)
  • Firearms under LEOSA (must be declared to a law enforcement ranger)
  • Motorcycle/bicycle/other helmets

All permitted bags are inspected and/or tagged at screening.

Security & Personal Safety

Lock and secure your vehicle. Parking areas are patrolled by federal law enforcement and bike security, but the National Park Service isn’t responsible for theft or lost items. Smoking is not allowed anywhere on visitor center grounds or at the memorial.

Accessibility & Medical Considerations

The site is ADA compliant and fully accessible. You may bring your own wheelchair or mobility scooter; general-use wheelchairs aren’t provided (except in emergencies). Distances between facilities can be challenging; benches throughout the grounds offer places to rest. EMS support is available and a hospital is nearby—notify staff at security or speak with a ranger if you need assistance.

Service Animals

Service animals are welcome under ADA guidelines. For specifics, see the ADA service-animal rules and FAQs.
